Dirk has been trained in the art of iaido to fight with a katana, and has also trained in kendo. He is able to have his dream and real life selves awake at the same time. (Though he does tend to space out when he's paying more attention to his dream self.)
Initially, his only noticeable ability will be flash stepping and enhanced speed and agility, which does not manifest in any remarkable way. (One day, he's simply faster.) (Note: Because of his speed, he has a highly heightened metabolism. He cannot get drunk and/or high, he burns through medications - including painkillers - extremely quickly, and he needs to eat quite a bit more. However, he will heal slightly faster than a regular human.)
When in battle, he will also gain the ability to create lightning, but he won't understand how to control it for some time. (He'll only be able to use it when actively engaged in a battle.) He will also be slightly resistant to electrical shocks, but not enough to save him from a full on attack. When he better learns how to control his powers, he will be able to create a krypton laser sword. (Think light saber.) Due to his low magic stat, he will still primarily rely on his swordsmanship and speed.
He will eventually develop the ability to rip souls from their bodies, but not until he is in mortal danger. (Additionally, this will leave him exhausted and unable to continue fighting.) He has also gained the ability to cause "heart static", which causes people to black out temporarily and/or fall unconscious. Dirk is not in full control of the ability and does not like to use it. It causes him headaches and blurred vision if used too often.
